Acceptable access and Use of University ICT Resources
The University’s ICT Resources and facilities shall be provided to faculties, schools and institutes in support of the academic, research and innovations initiatives and in accordance to the university mission. ICT Services department shall encourages maximum utilization of ICT resources by adequately making them available to SIMAD University community. The utilization of SIMAD University ICT resources shall be in accordance with the acceptance of this policy that provides the guidelines and requirements for access, acceptance and utilization of the university ICT resources
Students must abide by all regulations and standard that regulates all activities involving University ICT resources and facilities and should always seek assistance or permission from the designated ICT resource owner
All university ICT resource users shall be required to freely share ICT resources abiding by the regulations and procedure set to safeguard and promote maximum utilization of the ICT resources involved, with priorities to urgent important duties and in full cooperation with other users granted permission to access and use the University ICT resources
The University’s ICT resources shall be used in promotion and fulfilment of the University’s vision and mission
University ICT resources Users shall be required to obtain access and use permission from the designated owner prior the utilization and produce the ID or approved authorization documents in the subsequent utilization
All activities and involvement where the university ICT resources and facilities are used by the university staff to earn extra income by writing articles or books, shall require prior authorization from the ICT director
SIMAD University network shall be utilized guided by high level of integrity and any abusive usage of network shall be regarded as an unacceptable use.
Individual Users shall ensure security of their documents and files in the university computers and other appliances.
All information that originates from individual accounts and or transmit through the University ICT Resources shall be regarded to as personal document and the university shall not be liable for and effect or damage connected to such information
All ICT resources accounts and Computer accounts are SIMAD University property and shall be monitored, regulated or deactivated according to SIMAD University ICT policies and procedures.
Unacceptable Use of ICT Resources
SIMAD University shall give permission to access and use of its ICT Resources to its partner organizations whose contributions are in line with core mission of the university including but not limited to student organizations, professional societies, Alumni, charity organizations and Non- governmental organizations. Any other individual consumer or organization that does not support the mission of SIMAD University is strictly prohibited from the access and use of ICT resources
Acts of wasteful ICT resource use are strictly prohibited such as but not limited to, chain letters, betting and gambling, games, intentionally creating unnecessary both local available and other network traffic, or using the university printing facility to produce excessive number of copies of any personal documents
SIMAD ICT resources Users shall not be permitted to install, copy, modify or reconfigure or delete software or hardware on any University computer or any other ICT resource facilities without proper authorization and guidance of the university ICT officers or the ICT resource owner
Movement of any ICT resource from its original location by any Users is prohibited and in instances when there is a need to move it prior permission must be granted by the designated owner or heads of respective organizational units and with full information of the Director of ICT Services
SIMAD University ICT Resources and facilities shall not be used for; designing, sending, storage and advertisement of political campaigns, business advertisements, individual fund-raising, mass mailings; production, sending, storage and display of pornographic videos or material; hate literature; obscene images; defamatory materials with aim of causing offence to others by tarnishing their integrity and reputation
Interference with SIMAD University ICT resources, logging in to another users account without authorization or illegal access and utilization of the user accounts, facilities and data without prior permission by the relevant designated owners is not acceptable and is in violation of the university ICT policy
Acts aimed at interfering with normal operations of ICT systems or networks including but not limited to affecting the normal functioning of any component of the available networks, disconnecting or blocking communication lines, vandalism of the systems or parts of the systems among other interferences shall be e termed as criminal offences and gross violation of the ICT policy
Use of ICT resources and facilities to send and store any articles, documents messages and/or material termed and perceived to be fraudulent, insultive, harassing, containing misleading information is unacceptable and shall be considered violation of both University and local/international standards, laws and regulations
Intentional acts and actions affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of any ICT security control installations on ICT resources by authorized University ICT officer is unacceptable
All commercial activities aimed at income generations for the individual gain through the use of university ICT resources without prior authorization are strictly prohibited
Connecting any external or university computing device to either local area or other networks without ascertaining whether the device meets outlined security and safety standards as provided in the ICT policy and other applicable policies shall be unacceptable and in violation of the ICT policy
