Internet Usage

  1. SUMAD University shall promote the utilization of all ICT resources and the internet systems in its teaching and learning, research and communications processes. The university shall provide internet connectivity to all ICT resources for effective operations
  2. All university ICT users shall be responsible for the security and safety of all ICT resources and facilities connected to the university or local networks. The usage of such networks shall be guided by the understanding that Internet is provided for the purpose of educational research and learning to allow greater efficiency in teaching, research, administrative and service functions. The individual users are expected to demonstrate responsible use of internet and respect for others, and to use the facility in an ethical, legal, accountable and considerate manner
  3. All staff members of the University shall use the ICT resources internet connected in a manner that such use does not affect or cause trouble or problems with the designated owner monitoring systems or the system administrators
  4. The university shall grant rights and privileges of access and utilization of the University’s internet facilities for personal work only if it not used during working hours including visiting social media sites
  5. If staff opens any site with inappropriate information that may cause unease to others, the concerned staff member should exit from that site immediately.
  6. In situations and occasions when researchers or trainers need to send, receive or access inappropriate learning or research material, due process in seeking the approval of that act is mandatory where adequate reasons shall be given through the dean of the department or school involved
  7. Any action or activity that violates the acceptable use of network resources shall be taken as a gross misuse of the University ICT resources and facilities

Blocking Access to Certain Websites

  1. SIMAD University ICT Resources and facilities shall only be accessible or provided to persons and guests whose actions or activities are in line with the university goals and mission. Such persons shall be allowed access upon seeking prior authorization from the Director ICT services
  2. University ICT system administrators shall restrict and regulate the access to various sites for various reasons to safeguard the integrity of the University. These sites includes Auction sites, Dating sites, Gambling sites, Game sites and pornographic content sites among others.  Such sites shall be blocked from access. The SIMAD University Directorate of Institutional Development and operational  shall approve and Authorize the inappropriate sites to be blocked in liaison with the Director ICT services
  3. ICT services Directorate shall implement all sites blockage and internet restrictions to ensure that the internet access is in accordance with the university ICT policy
